2025 - Going into The Grimdark New Year

Well it’s a new year and I am once again resolving to try to use this blog to record my thoughts on Warhammer 40,000 as well as track my progress in events, hobbying, and just my overall experience as a player. So, let’s talk about how 2024 went for me.

Circle City Championship RTT Series: This year our club Scions of War started a local monthly RTT series. We ran 2 seasons and held tournaments every month at our local FLGS Geekz Haven in Dothan, AL. I managed to win 2 of them and podium in all of the ones I played in. My overall record at the RTTs I attended was 14-1 running both Eldar and my Blood Angels.

First Season of the Southeast Gaming Alliance Circuit:
In addition to our local RTT series we launched the SGA encompassing events played in Alabama, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. Myself along with Robert Demings, Luis Betancourt, and Robin Roberts kicked off the inaugural season running the circuit which ended up having hundreds of participants. We are looking to expand to incorporate Mississippi and Tennessee in 2025.

Team Events: This season my team went to ATC and finished with our highest placing ever. We lost to the team that won the event by a single point which was their closest round of the event. We finished strong at the event. Additionally we went to the Team Event in May in Valdosta and sent a team to Warzone Team Clash in Atlanta (although I sadly couldn’t attend that one)

A very tired me on day 2 of ATC

Hobby Progress:

I was looking over my hobby progress for the year and actually I got a lot of hobby work done in 2024! It didn’t hurt that Blood Angels got a massive range refresh this year with the new Lemartes, Astorath and Death Company. Here’s some of the models I’m most proud of painting up in 2024.

Goals for 2025

Heading into 2025 I am setting some Warhammer goals which I can hopefully complete this upcoming year.

1. Actually use this blog. I think journaling experiences in 40K is important both to grow as a player and a hobbyist. I have admittedly not done great in that department as I just stay so busy between my work and family life and well...actually painting and playing Warhammer 40K. That said, I want to try to make a point to post at least weekly about how my games have gone, what I'm working on as far as hobbying is concerned, and just my overall experiences in the hobby. Maybe someone will read it, maybe not. If nothing else it can just be a personal space for me to write and reflect.

2. Try and focus more on narrative and casual play. I am a tournament player. I enjoy tournaments both playing in them and running them and it's no secret amongst my club that I am a competitive player. That said, I am now 45 and am really wanting to dial back the competitive stuff and focus more on playing for enjoyment. Just putting a fun army together and rolling dice without the stress of trying to compete. Don't get me wrong, I love competition. Being of middle age and unable to physically compete in sports and such anymore, I find 40K is a great competitive outlet for me, but it is taxing at times and I really want to scale some of that back this year. I'm only planning to attend a couple of events that are weekend events to include Warzone Atlanta in February and ATC in July. Other than that, I will really only be playing in a few of our monthly RTTs locally and running some others here and there.

3. Win Best Overall at Warzone Atlanta. I am really happy to be able to return to WZA after a 3 year break from the event due to, well life circumstances. I last attended in 2021 and won Best Sportsmanship, and I want to return this year and compete for Best Overall. I think I have a great shot at it this year also so I'm really looking forward to taking my Blood Angels up to Atlanta and trying to take home the Sigilite.

4. Continue to grow the club. I am the president of our local wargaming club, Scions of War, and it has grown over the years to over 40 members and I want to continue to see it grow.

All in all I'd say I had a great 2024 as far as Warhammer 40,000 is concerned and I'm looking forward to another great year in 2025.
